You Capture- Red

This week, Beth sent us out to capture "red" I decided to keep things simple. I would have tried some different angles or backgrounds - but I got hungry. :)

Student: Umm, a scorpion, 'cause they're not scared of nothin'

Me: If there was an animal you would Not want to be, what would it be?

Student: (thinking) I guess a squid.

Me: A squid? Why?

Student: Why would anybody want that many legs? That's just excessive.

Sunday Fair

My Sunday was better than my Saturday. It was more productive and more fun.

Since moving into the new place, our list of "things we need" has just gotten longer and longer. So on Sunday we headed out to the burbs to get a few things.

We were pretty efficient. On the top of our list was baby gates. With Abby being more and more mobile, we've decided that some strategically placed gates might make life easier, and we definitely wanted something for the top of the stairs. So, we got all of that stuff and various odds and ends from half a dozen other stores.

We decided to stop and eat at olive garden (thanks mom and dad for the gift card!) We had a nice lunch, and we ordered Abby some pasta - it was her first pasta, actually. It took a little convincing to get the waitress to realize that we just wanted the pasta plain. She, at first, told us that they only had mac & cheese (I found that hard to believe that an intalian restaurant couldn't produce plain pasta) Then, she said that she could order mac and cheese with no cheese. I said that sounded ok, and then she said as she was writing down the order "one mac & cheese, with no cheese, just butter" So, I told her that I didn't want butter on it either. You would have thought that she had never considered that as a possible way to eat before.

Anyway, after a few more exchanges we finally got a plain order of penne pasta - and Abby loved it.

After a few more stores, we all headed home. Kyle and I were exhausted. But, on the way back home, I saw that the town was having their Harvest Fair. I love fairs. Even small ones like these. So, I decided that I would take Abby down to enjoy the festivities while Kyle got a little rest.

We had a nice time - we just strolled around and looked at all the vendors and rides. There were tons of kids and families. Live music, the smell of fair food - and the day was just gorgeous. I ended up buying Abby a hat (as the cold is just waiting around the corner). I love it, it's big on her, but still fits at the same time and it was knit to look like an apple. I took some pictures, although I failed to get the top of the hat in, so you can't see the stem and leaf. :)

So, after the festival, Abby and I headed home and spent the evening getting things done around the house. After she went to bed, Kyle and I made his new favorite dinner of cold chicken curry salad and watched some TV together.

All in all, it was a very nice (even if exhausting) day. Here are a few pics from the fair.

Bright balloons, fall trees, and fair food

nothing to write about

I don't really feel like blogging right now...but I don't really have any reason not to either. I tried saying that I didn't have anything interesting to talk about, but, hey, that's never stopped me before.

It rained today. All day. It was nice when I woke up and it was raining, but then it started getting old. The house was cold today too. I was surprised to find out that it was in the mid 60s outside today - I guess I should have opened a window? I dunno, it was all backwards.

I had planned to go grocery shopping and to run by a favorite thrift store to go goody hunting. I was going to throw in a trip to walgreens and maybe another errand or two. Long story short - none of that happened. It was raining and the streets were overcrowded with cars and there were no parking spots anywhere - and people were being extra mean about parking because of the rain. Abby was alternating between crying and screaming at me with brief shots of silence between...but mostly screaming. I was still cold. So, after an hour of driving around town just trying to find somewhere to park - I decided I couldn't do it.

I'm usually pretty good about doing that kind of thing when I don't want to. But not today. Just the thought of getting home with Abby and groceries and juggling both in the rain, upstairs and being cold and wet - stressed me out. So I just turned around and came home. Wasted a bunch of time, energy, and sanity for nothing.

I got home and handed Abs over to Kyle (who was home for an hour before he had to leave again) Kyle could tell I was frustrated and tried to help...but you know how it is when you're disappointed in yourself - you want to do something about it. I wanted to do something productive. So, I made him let me put Abby down for a nap. She didn't cry, but she didn't sleep. She stayed in her crib and played for an hour.

Kyle got her up from her fake nap and brought her down and told me he had to leave but that he wanted me and Abby to talk about things first so we could reconcile our differences. He's silly. But, she was so happy to be downstairs with us that it only took me about 2 mins before I was crawling around on my stomach chasing her through the house while she screamed and squealed and tried to get away from me. Much tickling ensued.

Anyway. Kyle had to leave. He's still gone -he's had a very busy day doing things and meeting people all over the city. I feel bad that its so wet outside. Abs is asleep now and all is quiet. Just me. I'm not sure what to do with myself...so, here I am.

Gee, what a pointless post. I'll do better tomorrow, ok?

You Capture - Feeling of Fall

This week, Beth challenged us to capture pictures of the "feeling" of fall.

There was this one morning that would have been perfect... I was driving to work, and since it had rained the night before, everything was wet. The sun was shining and it was making thick heavy sunbeams everywhere you looked. The morning mist was rising from the streets and the sun was shining through trees and buildings - shedding light on the newly changed tree colors. It was absolutely stunning.

Of course, I'd left my camera at home.

So, this week, you're gonna have to deal with some pictures of leaves instead. That's one thing about New England - when its time for the seasons to change, the trees waste no time.

These are really more "actual" fall than "feelings" of fall pictures - but it'll have to do. Maybe I'll try to take some pictures of the other ideas I had today. No promises though.
