Our BIG crazy trip.

Well, we did it.  We booked our tickets for our summer vacation.  Where?  To Australia!!!!

Yeah, like the continent on the other side of the world.

So, before you ask - yes, we're taking Abby.  Yes, we're aware that the main leg of the trip is 15 hours on an airplane.  Yes, we know that she'll only be 8 months old.  Yeah, we know about the 17 hour time difference too.  Yep - also fully aware that we're totally screwing with her sleep schedule.  We're very aware of our insanity.

BUT.

It's Australia! :)

Kyle has been tracking prices for something like the past 6 years.  He has family there that he's always wanted to visit - remember the people who sent us these? For a myriad of reasons, the airfare dropped dramatically this year.  So much so, that the three of us can go for 10 days for the same price that ONE person could have gone last year.  To make the trip even more fun (and possibly a bit more manageable) Kyle's sister Kyra and her boyfriend are joining us.  I think the extra hands will be helpful.

So, our plan is to leave here August 13th and arrive in Sydney on the 15th (remember, the time difference)  We haven't nailed down the details yet, but Kyle's relatives live in Melbourne, so we'll be spending some time there as well as Sydney.  Depending on price and scheduling, we may try to get up to the northern part of the country to the barrier reef sections as well - but we'll see.

We've been talking about this trip for probably close to a month now - but just booked the tickets today.  I'm mostly past my terrified stage and am currently in my planning mode.  We went and got Abigail a birth certificate today (who knew you didn't just get one of those at birth?)  So, next week we will go get her a baby passport and I will be getting a new mommy passport too.  :)

So, I'm excited. We're insane.  But, the opportunity was too good to pass up and we both know we'd always regret it if we didn't go for it.  I'm so lucky to have married somebody who loves to travel AND is so good at planning for these things.

Y'know - when I first found out I was pregnant, one of my first panicky thoughts was that I had somehow ruined all of our plans for travel.  I thought to myself, and later told Kyle, that I was so sorry because we would never get to go to Europe or Africa or any of the other places that we had always talked about visiting.  So, in a way, this trip means more than just flying around the world and meeting new family, it means that we can still live the life we dreamed.  And I'm Thrilled that I get to share it with Abigail too.

i am honestly SO proud of you for doing this. i, too...thought..."well, here goes all the world traveling i thought we would do" when i got preggers.

abs will be great. honestly. pratt did so well on the plane. he LOVED landing. kept looking out the window. bending his head down to see what was making all that noise.

she really will be fine. 8 months is good.

here are a few things to remember:
1. try to get her to take a bottle during take off. (and probably landing too)
2. make sure you have her bag of tricks/toys/etc on the floor under the seat in front of you and NOT in the overhead bin :)

can't wait to see pictures! if you find anyone that looks like hugh jackman, please ship him to arkansas for me.

Oh, Australia is mine and Pete's dream vacation.....knowing you guys are going to do it with baby in tow just gives me that much more motivation to get us there someday, too! Like everyone else, I can't wait to see the photos and read the stories! Way to go on the summer vacation choice!

How exciting! Take lots of pictures with your new camera and post so we can all vacation vicariously through you. Traveling with babies is not as bad as you'd think. Joie went on her first cruise at 9 months and she/we had a blast.
