new addition

It's not a boy.  It's not a girl.  It's a....Canon!

Hi.  My name is Laura, and I just bought my first grown up camera. :)

Y'all don't know how excited this makes me.  I know DSLR cameras are pretty common fare in most households nowdays...but, well, not ours.  I've been thinking/dreaming about getting a "real" camera for a looooong time now.  With baby #2 due to arrive soon, I finally got the nerve to really lobby for one.  My point-and-shoot has been GREAT, and I'm going to keep it around.  But, Abby is getting to be too fast for that little camera, our pictures are more often blurry and grainy than anything else.  And, sadly, I was losing my luster for taking pictures because they just weren't turning out how I'd like.

But, I'm pretty motivated now. :)

I have to send out a big public Thank You to my sweet husband.  I'd be lying if I said this purchase wasn't a bit of a strain on our budget, and his willingness to compromise with me and help us figure out the best way to make it happen just proves that he's a pretty great guy.  It's an investment for sure - but one that I hope will allow me to not only capture precious memories of our family, but also pursue this hobby that I've come to enjoy so much.

A creative outlet is essential to my well being - and this is certainly my outlet of choice.  I can't draw, I can't sew, I can't sing - but I can look at the world with a lens-like eye.  :)  I'm so excited about studying the art of photography and gaining new skills.  I've got a loooooong way to go, but I'm looking forward to that.

So.  Yay!  Thank you Kyle for understanding why this is so important to me. :)

After a lot of research, a few visits to our local camera store, lots of questions, and speaking with friends, we decided to go with this new Canon.
Canon T3i/600D

Happy shooting!

"Sweet son" translates into "sweet husband". Yay, Kyle! Laura I can't even imagine what these new pictures will look like as the "old" ones were amazing, pure and simple! Good for you!

We love you,

Ouma and Papa

I'm very happy for you. This is so kind of Kyle and good for Laura.
However, I don't know about your sewing, but I like your singing and you definately can draw. Oh yes, I am enjoying my birthday goodies. I think Abby's cookie had almost enough M&M's on it. Love ya,

Granny

Not a girl or a boy, eh? Even so, you still have to take care of it, not leave it in restaurants or grocery stores or coffeeshops, feed it (Batteries) regularly, take it for walks, keep it clean, go to the specialist if it gets ill, and you have to carry a bag around for its "Stuff". Sounds like a baby to me! (Congratulations, Laura & Kyle)!
Love,
Daddy/Grandpa
